WMYC – Race Two Report

Race Two – The First of Two Pursuit Races in this Summer’s Programme

It was a challenge  for both the competitors and the race management team during Sundays pursuit race, it was all about finishing everyone at 2 hours, at one point long discussions took place between everyone including Brian & Wendy Bolton onboard the committee boat, all looking for ideas to shorten the course, eventually Centenary headed to buoy 17, then  buoy 14, but then ended up at no 5 within a few minutes of the two hour slot. It was noted on the club lawn how nice it was to hear Wendy’s voice counting everyone through the “different” starting procedure.  Fantasma were first off at 11am, followed by five folk boats at 11.06. The two club’s Sonatas were off at 11.08, followed by Bear and then Obsession the other Sonata, the last start was 11.22 which was Vandal owned by Richard Holroyd the Dehler 29.
The conditions were changing all the time for the competitors, with an ebb tide and the breeze dropping. The wind seemed to be less on the south shore and boats found it a struggle to get any speed towards the finishing buoy at No 5
Congratulations to Richard & Sarah Matthews with OC winning overall with Gremlin & Pip being 2nd & 3rd.  The Folkboat fleet are making a mark. Club Sonata Frank with Richard Bailey and Abbie Dix were the lead whitesail and it was good to see some new competitors turning up on the start line.
Two special events coming up in early July are the Wallet Cup for short handed competitors and the ever popular Ancient Mariners – why not come and join us – the more the merrier.
