WMYC yachts win EAORA Races

Last weekend saw two EAORA races across the Thames Estuary. On Saturday the fleet of 17 yachts raced from Burnham to Chatham a distance of approximately 45 miles.

Richard Matthews, Oystercatcher XXXIII completed the race in 6 hours 3 minutes to win Class 1 and Overall, with Michael Wheeler’s, Golden Fleece, winning Class 3 and 4th overall.

16 Yachts finished and one retired.

 

On Sunday the return race from Chatham to Burnham had very much more wind and 12 starters.

Richard Matthews, Oystercatcher XXXIII finished a slightly shorter course (42 Miles) in 4 hours 5 minutes again winning Class 1 and Overall. The Slower Yachts had a foul tide beat all the way to the Corinthian line. Michael Wheeler’s, Golden Fleece finished in 8 hours 20 minutes giving him 6th place overall and winning Class 3.

 

With 5 Races of the EAORA Offshore season completed Oystercatcher XXXIII is in 5th overall and 2nd in Class 1.

Golden Fleece is 4th Overall and 1st in Class 3.

 

The next EAORA race starts at West Mersea at 20.00 on Friday 28th June and is a Fastnet qualifying race, overnight to Ostend, a course of approximately 125 miles. To date there are 18 entries for this race.
