WMYC Diesel Course

Our Diesel Instructor is Steve Marfleet, who runs courses on behalf of West Mersea Yacht Club. Steve, having studied Mechanical Engineering at college, went on to establish and run a successful local building  company where he was involved in the operation and oversight of a variety of diesel powered machinery. Steve has also sailed extensively in the UK and abroad on a wide range of boats and has a first class understanding of marine engines and the environment they exist in. We believe with his background he is perfectly placed to provide training in and understanding of marine diesels.

The one day course provides an awareness of the main systems of a marine diesel engine and teaches the ability to take simple measures to prevent mechanical breakdown at sea and rectify defects which do not require workshop support. Mechanical failure is the main cause of lifeboat callout to yachts and motor cruisers. Basic maintenance and engine care may make sure you are not part of these figures.
