club facilities

The West Mersea Yacht Club has a full range of facilities that enable our members to take full advantage of the excellent location of our clubhouse as well the fantastic sailing waters of the Blackwater estuary and southern North Sea.

Launch Service

Members are taken to and from their yachts throughout the season by two launches that are for the exclusive use of our members. The launches run from a floating pontoon from which dinghies can also be launched at all states of the tide. Fresh drinking water is also available from a standpipe on the end of the pontoon.

Contacting the Launch
Members should always call the launch, Callsign YC1, from the Club or from their own VHF, or to the Club mobile phone 07752 309435.

During November the launch service will operate from 9am until dusk by appointment only.

Moorings large and small

We have moorings for large and small boats as well as on-shore dinghy storage and space to keep yachts over the winter. Some moorings are still available for the coming season - contact the Club office on 01206 382947 for more information.

Open all year round

The WMYC is proud of its claim to be one of the very few yacht clubs in the country to open every day of the year. Tasty snacks and bar meals are provided most days and à la carte menu selections and blackboard specials are offered on Friday and Saturday evenings throughout the year. Our warm and friendly bar is open every evening of the week. Our social calendar includes a varied programme of formal dinners, lecture suppers, wine tastings, happy hours and other events organised for the entertainment of our members and their guests.

Racing and cruising

On the water we support a full programme of racing events for most sizes and type of boats including IRC, Locally Handicapped yachts, Mersea Open Fishing Boats, Sportsboats and dinghies. Cruising members enjoy a full range of activities including a cruises in company to destinations as diverse as Brightlingsea and London’s St Katherine’s dock.

RYA Courses

The WMYC is the authorised Centre for conducting examinations for RYA/DOT certificates of competence for the East Anglian area (RYA/DOT Coastal Skipper, RYA/DOT Yachtmaster Offshore, RYA/DOT Yachtmaster Ocean, VHF Radio operator certificate, Diesel Engine and First Aid). Classes are held in the Club during the year on these subjects with examinations typically being held in the Winter.
